Things to remember …
—Early voting begins on 10/18 …Vote to REJECT
—Voting Day is on 11/7 – only two polling places: Davisville Middle School and the NK Senior Center.
—Due to it being an off-election year, it is reportedly costing us upwards of $20K to hold this vote, so please get out and vote.
—Below is the official language on which we will be asked to vote. Please read it to be absolutely clear on what your “Approve” or “Reject” means.
—An “Approve” vote means you are authorizing the Town to take out loans (in the stated amount, plus interest and other costs over the duration/lifetime of the loan) for the construction of a new combined middle school on the north end of town and the construction of a new public safety facility. Given the language, it is also for whatever else [completely undefined] the Town Council members (whomever they may be at the time) care to spend the money on.
—A “Reject” vote means you do not authorize the Town to take out the loans.
—NOTE: A “Reject” vote does not kill any of the projects (unless our officials decide to spite/punish people for voting the questions down). A “Reject” vote means no to the current loan requests and to the existing plans or, more accurately, lack thereof. It could send the message that we would like the questions to be separate so we can vote on each project individually on their own merits/plans. It could send the message that our officials should slow things down and go back to the drawing board and present us with solid plans and locations before they ask for hundreds of millions in loans.
Many of us are not saying an outright permanent “No!” to these expensive bonds … we’re simply saying “Not right now! Not like this! Not without a plan!”
